The Rugged coastline of Achill Island is contrasted by its beautiful golden miles of sandy beaches and quiet coves.

Dugort – Silver Strand
Only 11km (6.5 miles) from Saula West holiday cottage.
A small sandy beach at the foot of Slievemore Mountain to the east of Dugort village. This beach is located within a Special Conservation Area and is rich in flora and fauna. Also known as Pollawaddy Strand. Parking area with picnic tables.
Lifeguard patrolled during the bathing season.
Dugort – Golden Strand

Only 9.5km (6 miles) from Saula West holiday cottage. A long sandy beach also set in a rural area that never seems busy despite its beauty.
Known as Barnyagappul Stand, from the Irish for “gap of the horses” you will now find
sheep freely grazing on the open grassland behind and wildlife a plenty in the small dunes.
Car parking is available next to the beach.
Keel – Trawmore strand

A popular 4 kilometre long shingle beach backed by low sand dunes.
The beach is very popular for water sports and surfing. The areas of machair supports low growing mosses. Southeast of the plain the ground rises sharply, the hills are covered by bog and heath.

Keem beach

This cove is a must-see for every visitor to Achill.
A small sandy beach set in a rural area sheltered by cliffs in a glorious horseshoe bay. The cliffs support a rich amount of plants and animals and bird and wildlife watching is very good here. Located 10km west of Keel village.
Basking Sharks are common here.
Lifeguard patrolled during the bathing season.

Dooega beach
A sheltered sandy beach located on a small coastal inlet called Camport Bay. Follow the Achill Atlantic drive route and you will end up here.
Well worthy of a visit. Parking is available and there is a disabled access ramp.
This beach is not lifeguarded.
