Achill Island cycle routes

The Saula West holiday cottage is centrally located and has access to the numerous local, well maintained cycle routes that Achill Island has to offer, as well as a direct link to the Great Western Greenway.

Great Western Greenway

The Great Western Greenway, is a designated 44km off-road cycling and walking trail that follows the old Westport to Achill railway line. This was opened in 2011 by Ireland’s Prime Minister (Taoiseach) Enda Kenny. This is not an endurance test as it has been designed with families in mind. You do not need to do all of the 44km as access to this car-free route can be found anywhere in between its starting point at Westport to it’s destination at Achill. So you can just take one section at a your own pace, or finish the whole route . Either way, pedalling across Achill, the Currane Peninsula, Clew Bay or Mulranny beach will make for a great Mayo memory.
